Tribute to Puccini

Most visitors to Viareggio make the short trip along the Viale dei Tigli, turning left into the road leading to Torre del Lago Puccini, which gets its name from a watch-tower built there in the 15th or 16th centuries, with the composer's name being added after his death in 1924. Giacomo Puccini spent long periods of his life here, writing numerous operas. On the sqaure facing the lake stands Puccini's villa, where a room, converted into a chapel, contains his tomb (information about guided tours: Villa Puccini, tel 0584 341445)-
